In 1766-1767, Samson Occom traveled across England raising funds for Eleazor Wheelock’s Indian school which was to house and educate Native Americans. Occom kept a journal on this trip and it is my intent to reproduce that 250 year old journal on my sister site Occom’s Footsteps.

Occom’s journal begins in November 1765 but has only 3 entries before February 1766. It is my plan to publish these 3 entries this month and then, beginning with the first of his more regular posts in February, to travel along with Occom on a day to day journey of his trip to England; precisely 250 years to the day since it occurred. A special thank you to Ms. Ivy Schweitzer and her team at Dartmouth College’s The Occom Circle project for the wonderful work they have done in digitizing and transcribing many of Occom’s journals and letters.
